Sevenoaks Bat & Ball

18th April 1981

A view of the ''up'' side waiting shelter in its original, albeit somewhat rundown, condition with fully enclosed waiting rooms at either end of an open central section. At this time the footbridge still retained its corrugated iron roof and lacked steel mesh side screens to prevent children or animals from falling through the large gaps below handrail level. The ‘’up’’ platform had yet to be extended from 4 to 8 coach lengths, the short length resulting from the position of a main line connection just beyond the London end which served sidings that ran behind the platform and the Sevenoaks Gas Works. © David Morgan

13th March 1982

A view of the station looking west towards Sevenoaks. At this time the footbridge still retained its roof and an enclosed area beneath the ''down'' side steps which served as the station coal store, although the front of the ''up'' side waiting shelter had been removed. Just visible on the right hand footbridge supports is one of a series of reversing lights installed to control propelling movements into the Redland Aggregates Siding, which was about to open for traffic. In the distance can be seen a large gas main crossing the line and beyond it the original Otford Road overbridge which was subsequently replaced as part of a road widening scheme. © David Morgan

12th February 1983

Viewed from the signal box steps, 33208 and 73132 arrive on a freezing Saturday morning with a loaded stone train for the Redland Aggregates Terminal. The train will draw through the station, stop, then propel back into the terminal via a trailing connection in the ''Up'' Line situated on the Sevenoaks side of the station, beyond the overbridge that can just be seen in the distance. Just in front of the train, but beyond the ''Up'' Platform, a gap in the bank marks the course of the former Sevenoaks Gas Works siding. After passing across the railway boundary the Gas Works siding curved sharply to the right, through the area now occupied by the Sevenoaks Community Centre, before running along one side of Cramptons Road to reach the gas works. © David Morgan
